School Profile   //    Courses    //    Faculty
The Climbing Academy is the only accredited high school for climbers grades 9-12. We are first and foremost an academic institution whose goal is to provide a rigorous college preparatory curriculum to our students. The Climbing Academy is privately accredited through the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) and AdvancED. Not only does this give us freedom over our curriculum, but it ensures that we are meeting the core standards set forth by these accreditation bodies. This allows for easy credit transfers between schools and universities as well as a strong confidence in the quality of education that we provide. Each semester while traveling, students attend class five full days each week and earn high school credit in seven academic areas. Our faculty is composed of professional teachers with a passion for working with young people in a global, and constantly changing learning environment. With a 4:1 (or less) student-to-teacher ratio, students receive personal attention and an individualized educational experience few schools can offer. Our college preparatory curriculum fulfills rigorous academic standards and has proven to prepare students to compete successfully for college admission.

Learning is a full time process at The Climbing Academy. The experiences outside the classroom during daily life are integral to our educational program. Development of character is a cornerstone of the school’s mission, helping students become responsible, culturally aware, and compassionate individuals able to find success wherever life may take them.

As part of each semester, a service learning project will be planned in the international destination where the school travels. These projects will look to expose our students to a variety of local issues. This project will focus on giving back to the people and the places where we will be visiting.

The mission of The Climbing Academy is to help our students equally excel in the areas of academics, athletics, and character.

Our Classroom

Our mobile classroom reinterprets traditional course content with daily life and surrounding environments. Education and experience are intertwined at TCA: earning Spanish while traveling in Spain, examining cultural studies in Mexico, or studying biology on safari in Africa. Students at The Climbing Academy live what they are learning. Our small classes led by experienced and motivated teachers provide an individualized approach, focused on active student participation. As the locations of the program are constantly changing, so are the classrooms.  While on the road, one or two days of the week will be spent in the local library for classes, internet, or research.  Our classes often find themselves in cabins, camp, under a shady pine tree, or at the local library. The world is our classroom and flexibility is key.
Our itinerary also allows for several college visits each year in the regions where we climb. Midterms and finals are always held at established locations with good accommodations. Standardized tests such as the SAT and AP tests will be taken at local schools along the way.
